Opening of the Midland Boat Station

We have some fantastic news that we are very proud of.

Last Friday 11th October 2024.

Her Royal Highness

The Princess Royal, Admiral of the Sea Cadet Corps.

Officially opened the Midlands Boat Station.

Also in attendance were Sea Cadets CEO Martin Coles CBE, High Sherriff of the West Midlands – Douglas Wright MBE DL, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Derrick Anderson CBE, and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Ken Wood, plus other notable dignitaries and of course Sea Cadets from around the region.

Her Royal Highness was taken on a tour of the building by Martin Coles.

Phil had the profound honour of then being presented to Her Royal Highness and briefly discussing with her the New Midlands Boat Station’s journey over a number of years leading to its completion.

After inspecting the building Her Royal Highness was given a royal salute on the parade ground before inspecting the assembled immaculately turned-out Sea Cadets.

The Sea Cadets Prayer was followed by speeches from:

Mr. Coles & HRH The Princess Royal and to our surprise both acknowledged Troyka’s work on the project.

There was also a speech from Cadet Corporal Sandu.

The Boat Station was then officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal, who unveiled a plaque and cut a splendid cake with a ceremonial sword.

This saw the end of the royal visit.

Awards were subsequently presented to several cadets. Following this, dignitaries, cadets, and guests were invited to tour the station.

In the main activity room, Martin Coles called for the attendees’ attention and spoke about someone’s long-term commitment and outstanding contribution to the successful completion of the station. To Phil's surprise, he was talking about him!

Phil was presented with a Certificate of Recognition from MSSC, for which we are deeply honoured.

What a day!

Awaiting official photos of the day, meanwhile
